Special European Council, October 1-2

On October 1 and 2, EU Heads of State or Government, including Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela, met in Brussels for a Special European Council meeting.

Discussions touched upon a number of issues, namely:

The Single Market, with the European Council calling for: strict implementation and enforcement of the Single Market rules; the removal of unjustified barriers, particularly in the area of services, and; investment in education, training, and the effective use of skills.

Digital Transition, with leaders agreeing that at least 20% of the funds from the Recovery and Resilience Facility being made available for a digital transition, including for Small and Medium Enterprises.

Industrial Policy, with EU leaders inviting the Commission to identify strategic dependencies, in particular in the most sensitive industrial ecosystems such as the health sector.
