Stop Online Hate Speech

On June 22, the European Commission published the European Union’s Code of Conduct on countering illegal hate speech online.

Results have, in general, been very positive with IT companies assessing up to 90% of flagged content within 24 hours of flagging. 71% of flagged content was also deemed to be illegal content and subsequently removed.

These results are indeed positive as back in 2016, when the first evaluation was held, only 40% of content was reviewed in the first 24 hours and only 28% of content was considered as being illegal and eventually removed.

The European Commission is currently considering ways to prompt all platforms dealing with illegal hate speech, to set up effective notice-and-action systems.
