Member States given help to address shortage of health workers

To help address the current shortages of health workers, the EU Commission has recently issued a Communication which provides guidance on speeding up the recognition of medical workers’ professional qualifications.

The Communication clarifies rules that allow doctors and nurses who are still in training to be able to practice their professions. The Communication also facilitates the freedom of movement of professionals so that they can be of assistance where they are needed the most.

Finally, the Communication also affirms the EU Commission’s constant availability to support Member States and professionals to control the crisis, maintain their free movement rights and ensure patients’ safety.
