Joint statement of the members of the European Council, 26 March 2020

Following the informal video conference on 26 March 2020, the members of the European Council adopted a statement on the EU actions in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, EU enlargement, the earthquake in Croatia and the situation at the EU’s external borders.

EU Heads of State or Government reiterated their commitment to cooperate with the international community and external partners in combating the global COVID-19 pandemic, and to continue to work along the five strands defined at the video conferences of the European Council of 10 and 17 March 2020, namely:

  • Limiting the spread of the virus;
  • Providing medical equipment;
  • Promoting research;
  • Tackling socio-economic consequences;
  • Repatriation of citizens stranded in third countries.
