Croatia, the last EU Member State to have formally joined the bloc, back in January 2013, will be holding its first rotating Council Presidency during the first six months of this year.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković presented his country’s Council Presidency priorities earlier on today to the European Parliament and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Plenković explained that his country’s Presidency will be focusing on a Europe that is developing, a Europe that connects, a Europe that protects, and a Europe that influences.
Today’s meeting provided the opportunity to further develop ways to achieve the goals of the Presidency, as well as properly tackle current issues which are most prevalent in the EU at the moment.
Considering ‘A strong Europe in a world of challenges’ as is the Presidency’s motto, Prime Minister Plenković outlined the following elements when speaking of each priority the Presidency has.
A Europe that Develops
Croatia notes that having the Presidency of the Council of the EU is in itself an opportunity to further ensure better conditions for all of the EU and its citizens through balanced and sustainable growth.
A Europe that Connects
The Presidency notes that the European Union should be in a position to adequately respond to the challenges of the 21st century. The Presidency is committed towards a Europe that has a holistic network economy and uses its full potential.
A Europe that Protects
