An information session was held today organised by MEUSAC and the Environmental Resources Authority (ERA) on the new packaging and packaging waste directive, issued in June.
Today’s session followed yesterday’s information session on the Waste Framework Directive and another on the landfill regulations, batteries and end-of-life vehicle directive will be held next week.
ERA officials explained that the directives will need to be transposed into national legislation within two years.
A new format in terms of additional national data reporting will take place as from March 31, 2019.
The main drive of this directive is to maintain the Single market and harmonisation in the EU, ERA said. It was also emphasised that past and new directives never sought to eliminate glass bottle refund schemes but just deemed such schemes uncompetitive.« Back
