EU Funding Programme

Creative Europe

Audiovisual, Cultural and Creative Sector

Creative Europe is a framework programme to support financially Europe’s culture, creative and audiovisual sectors. Its aims are to help the cultural and creative sectors seize the opportunities of the digital age and globalization; enable sectors to reach their economic potential, contributing to sustainable growth, jobs and social cohesion; and give Europe’s culture and media sectors access to new international opportunities, markets and audiences.

This programme consists of two strands – Culture and Media.

  1. The Culture Sub-Programme aims to foster interest in the exploitation of the culture sector and mitigate risks, from both an environmental and human perspective. Projects of this strand can include literary translations, creation of European networks and platforms and the cooperation on European projects.
  2. The Media Sub-Programme aims to support initiatives that can generate a real impact for the sector across Europe, including supporting individual works, initiatives that promote new skills in the sector, and initiatives that promote international cooperation in the sector. E.g. of projects falling under this strand include – video game development, television programming of audiovisual European works, film festivals and training, amongst others.

These two sub-programmes fall under the Cross-sectoral strand which facilitates the access to finance for SMEs and organizations from the cultural and creative sectors as well as promote transnational policy cooperation. This programme follows on the work of the previous Culture Programme and Media Programme.
