The European Social Fund is Europe’s main instrument for supporting jobs, enhancing skills and ensuring fairer job opportunities for EU citizens. The role of the ESF is to increase employment opportunities, promote education and lifelong learning, enhance social inclusion, contribute to combating poverty and improve the capacity of public administrations to serve citizens and job-seekers better. Furthermore, it seeks to enhance institutional capacity and efficient public administration.
Each Member State in partnership with the European Commission agrees on the priorities known as Operational Programme (OP) for a seven year period. Through these OP’s, employment related projects may be supported. It is up to the Member States to identify priority areas which will be specifically targeted under this fund.
The Managing Authority responsible for the above mentioned funds is the Planning and Priorities Coordination Division (PPCD).
