A Core Group Meeting held on Monday, February 27, 2017 discussed recent proposals made by the European Commission in relation to the Building a European Data Economy. The Core Group comprises representatives from government, political parties, constituted bodies and civil society.
The free flow of data, eprivacy, the creation of a one-stop shop for data storage, the exchange of data between Member States, the localisation of data, Malta’s position in terms of localisation of data restrictions, ownership of data, the proposal on the legal framework on electronic communications, consent of consumers when their data is used for marketing reasons when using a service or other, fines for company breaches when using consumer data, and more were discussed.
Dr Joseph Saviour Azzopardi from the Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) - the Government’s ICT arm - and Mr Ian Deguara from the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner gave a presentation.
Social Dialogue Minister Helena Dalli and MEUSAC Head Dr Vanni Xuereb addressed the meeting as well.
